Merry Christmas
It was a typical Christmas Eve - every house was swamped in Christmas trimmings, children were dancing around, excited for Santa's visit that night, and it was snowing. Everyone was in the Christmas spirit except for one person - . She sat in her living room, huddled on the sofa in her quilt, watching a romantic Christmas movie, surrounded my tissues containing the streams of tears that had been pouring down her cheeks for the past week. Her mobile was laid next to her, and every ten minutes, she's check it to be greeted with a blank screen - no messages. A week ago, she was her normal self, cheerful, giggling. This all changed when she received a note the next morning telling her that her boyfriend, of three years had left her, took her money and everything she owned that was valuble. She guessed that he'd left the large things because they were too big to fit in his car. After all this time, she'd found out he was only with her to take her money. She was imagining this Christmas to be perfect. Her new house, and just him and herself - not flat mates to disturb them. Of course, she just kept telling herself he'd come back in time. He'd realise that he's made a mistake and missed her with all his heart. She'd forgive him as well, because she was such a caring person, she could never hold a grudge with someone. Her best friend didn't have the time to come round and see her. She was working full time right up until Christmas, but tomorrow, she'd invited her to a big party her cousin was holding at the pub around the corner. She didn't particularly want to go, but finally gave in after bugging her none stop, telling her it would do her some good to get out of the stuffy house, and to meet some new people - move on. But she couldn't move on. She was crazy about him. It was as if he'd hypnotised her into thinking everything he did was amazing. The way he used to cuddle her and say that it'd all be alright, even though most of the time, it never was.
At eight o' clock that night, she dragged herself back upstairs and back into her bed. She told herself to get an early night, and get some sleep even though she'd just lay there, staring into nothingness, listening, just in case he'd come back in the middle of the night. She turned over and saw the clock turn midnight and her lips turned into a slight smile - the first one in days. She remembered when she was a kid, and she used to stay up until midnight, and then get excited when she realized it was finally Christmas Day, the day she'd been looking forward to all year. She used to listen out for Santa, and the jingle of the reindeer's bells, but always used to drift off in the early hours of the morning. She imagined all of the kids in the world right now, who'd all be listening just like her, for their presents to arrive.
She got around five hours of sleep, but still woke up at seven o' clock, and got out of bed, and got into the shower. She forced him out of her head, even though he kept sliding back in again as she ate her breakfast and brushed her teeth. She hardly ate anything, and could feel herself losing weight, even though she kept telling herself that she was too fat, and needed to exercise more. She sat back down on the sofa in some baggy trousers and a baggy jumper, her hair scraped back and held tightly with a hair band and watched all of the Christmas programmes, trying to cheer herself up a little for later on, at the party. It didn't work, but she knew that if she got some alcohol down her, it'd relieve her pain.
It was 5pm when she heaved herself up from the sofa. had dragged around shopping with her and picked her out a dress, It was easier than she thought to get into the dress, because of all the weight she'd lost. Then she did her hair and make-up. She piled on some foundation to try to hide the bags under her eyes, and tried to make herself look like "Normal ". When she finished, she took a step back and looked at herself. Through her eyes, she saw a chubby pale girl, just squeezing into a black and white patterned dress, which didn't really suit her anyway, but regardless, she put on her new heels, a thick coat and grabbed her matching clutch bag and drove her car around to 's house. had invited her to stay at hers for the night, so she left her car on the drive and gave three gentle knocks on the door. On the third knock, opened the door, gave a big hug, and lead her inside. Since left, the place had gotten into a huge mess. There were drink cans and plates left everywhere and magazines just dumped on the floor.
"I really think I should clean this place up for you before we leave..." frowned as she grabbed a pile of magazines that were scattered on the coffee table and put them in the magazine rack.
"Let me sort that out, you look absolutely done for. Have you been sleeping properly?" turned her around to look at her, but she just smiled and nodded.
"I think I've got an eye infection or something. It'll clear up," but didn't look at all persuaded.
"I can read you like a book, . You haven't have you? Tonight, we'll go home early, and have a mug of hot chocolate before we go to bed, okay?" knew that she couldn't disagree with , so defeated, nodded her head slowly.
's POV
"I think the taxi's here, so we better get outside before he drives off," pulled my arm, until I was outside, and we jumped into the taxi. The room in the pub was pretty big and had a buffet, a DJ and some disco lights. There were around 100 people but none of them I recognised. I just followed as she introduced me to her cousin and then went to the buffet.
"Are you sure you're okay? Your not usually shy like this, your usually off talking to some randomers, and having a few drinks. Come on, I'll get you a vodka," I shuffled behind her until she got to the bar and ordered my drink. I drank it all straight away and asked for another. I was going to get over him. He was a stupid idiot who doesn't deserve my heart. The more drinks I had, the more my memory forgot about him. He was a lousy boyfriend anyway. I was always telling him how much I loved him, but he never retruned it.
", what do you want?" a guy with hair questioned another guy with hair hiding behind him.
"I'll just have a coke. I'm not drinking," he mumbled as he took his mobile out of his pocket, glimpsed at it and then put it back. I must admit he was cute; even though I'd had quite a bit to drink, I still knew a cute guy when I saw him. My courage built up inside me, as I felt my old self taking over. The cheeky, always up for a laugh teenager . The one I'd been before I'd met him and got myself all tangled up inside him. He looked up from his phone and our eyes connected, and I gave him a flirty smile. He smirked back at me and walked over to the opposite side of me.
"?"
"Nice to meet you...?"
"," I smiled.
"Merry Christmas, " he gave me a cheeky grin, "Wanna dance?"
"Sure," he took my hand, and as we reached the dancefloor a slow song came on. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he did the same around my waist as we danced close, my head resting on his shoulder. The next thing I knew, I was lying outside on someone's coat, my own coat wrapped around me, my head resting on someone's chest and the rest of me sprawled out on a bench. I sat up, but my head swirled around and someone soothed me, stroking my hair and my face as if I was a little baby.
"It's okay, you just fainted, so I've brought you outside to get some fresh air. You gave me a scare then, young lady,"
"?"
"Yeah, it's me. 's just inside phoning a taxi, and we're going to take you home. She says I can stay the night too if I want. And if you want me to as well of course..."
"I'd like that," I sat up and automatically leaned into him. Our lips brushed each others when he suddenly pulled away.
"?"
"What?"
"Merry Christmas" he gave me the cheeky grin again as I playfully punched him on the arm. I knew this was going to be a great Christmas after all.
Hope you enjoyed it! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! x
